Safety and security

A Transit Connect can cover huge distances every year so keeping occupants and loads safe and secure at all times is of paramount importance.

A solid design

We’ve designed Transit Connect to survive the cut and thrust of today’s roads by incorporating outstanding vehicle and occupant safety. Using advanced computer modelling, we have developed a body structure that combines energy-absorbing crumple zones with a rigid shell. There is also a range of bulkhead options from full width, to full height mesh. And there’s a wraparound driver bulkhead option that comes with the fold-flat passenger seat, to ensure maximum occupant protection.

Under the dynamic body shell, and inside both front doors, there are high-strength steel beams that help prevent intrusion in a side impact. There is also a boron steel cross-member behind the front bumper, designed to absorb and safely channel crash energy away from the occupants.

In addition, all Transit Connect vans benefit from the following standard features:

  • Driver's airbag
  • Height-adjustable inertia reel seat belts with grabbers and driver's seat belt pre-tensioner
  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Anti-submarining ramps in front seat bases
  • Height-adjustable head restraints

There are also extra safety features available as options on all Transit Connect models:

  • Passenger's airbag*
  • Side airbags (not available with fold-flat passenger's seat)
  • Traction Assist and rear disc brakes

* Please note: A rear-facing child seat should never be placed in the front passenger seat when the vehicle is equipped with an operational front passenger’s airbag.

Peace of mind

Transit Connect comes with class-leading levels of security, so you can rest easy, no matter where your van’s parked. A robust lock-in-latch system, incorporated into a single steel-shielded unit, is designed to stop thieves gaining access to the cab or loadspace, plus there’s a key-operated bonnet lock. Even if someone did manage to gain entry, they would still face the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser, which requires your key’s unique, security identification for the engine to start. You can also add an optional perimeter alarm, and remote entry, central double locking for further peace of mind.
