Performance

The power to deliver a top quality job is the key to success in any business. So our comprehensive range of engines and transmissions, plus the choice between front-wheel (FWD), rear-wheel (RWD), or all-wheel drive (AWD) have been developed to withstand the rigours of working life and to provide the power just when you need it most.

Powerful and efficient

Our line-up of Duratorq TDCi diesel engines uses advanced design and technology to boost performance and efficiency. The latest common rail fuel-injection system helps shape a hard-working combination of horsepower and torque for superior load carrying and towing capability.

Diesel front-wheel drive (FWD)

2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, available with 350 Nm torque:
  • 140 PS/350 Nm

Diesel rear-wheel drive (RWD)

2.4-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, available in three power and torque configurations:
  • 100 PS/285 Nm
  • 115 PS/320 Nm
  • 140 PS/375 Nm
3.2-litre Duratorq TDC engine, available with 470 Nm torque:
  • 200 PS /470 Nm

Choosing the right drive

There are advantages to each method of drive on a Transit. So to help you choose the right option, here are the advantages of each.

What does FWD offer?

• Lower load floor for easier loading and unloading
• Larger load space
• Outstanding manoeuvrability and driving feel
• Better fuel economy and payload than equivalent rear-wheel-drive models
• Ideal choice for multi-drop delivery applications
• Durashift 6-speed manual transmission

What does RWD offer?

• Traditional layout for heavier payloads
• Ideal choice when towing
• Durashift 5-speed manual transmission (100 PS 2.4-litre)
• TDCi Durashift 6-speed manual transmission (115 PS 2.4-litre TDCi/140 PS 2.4-litre TDCi diesel)
• 3.2-litre TDCi 6-speed diesel 200 PS

What does AWD offer?

• Ideally suited to more challenging road surfaces
• Additional traction in difficult driving conditions, such as loose surfaces, mud or heavy snow
• Increased vehicle competence on slippery or off-road surfaces
• Durashift 6-speed manual transmission (140 PS 2.4-litre TDCi diesel)

Outstanding dynamics

When you spend a lot of time in a vehicle, Transit’s outstanding dynamics help reduce your stress and tiredness levels. This has been achieved through careful component selection and engineering design. The steering is lighter and more responsive, making it easier to drive in congested towns or manoeuvre in tight parking spaces. The ride is also smoother, both laden or unladen, thanks to improved suspension balance.
Once on the move, the smooth acceleration through the rev range, regardless of load or driving conditions, will reduce driving effort. In addition, driver fatigue has been cut by making the cabin more car-like, by carefully reducing noise, vibration and harshness – whatever the road surface.

Driving safety

Work is hard enough. So we’ve designed the Transit Chassis Cab to be easier to handle and drive by incorporating: four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS); electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), which prevents rear-wheel lock-up; Brake Traction Control System (BTCS), which stops wheelspin when pulling away; and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Brake Assist, so you can remain composed and in control in any situation.

Home Safe headlights

When you get out of your Transit Chassis Cab at night, the lights are activated so they remain on for 30 seconds. An added bit of security that helps illuminate the way from your vehicle.

All-wheel drive (AWD)

This provides the driver with that extra bit of confidence just when it’s needed most on slippery surfaces, on or off-road. Our unique and innovative AWD diverts drive to the front wheels when grip is lost. This added traction doesn’t affect the exemplary on-road performance.

Hill Start Assist (HSA)

HSA prevents you from rolling backwards during hill-starts. It keeps the wheels braked after you release the pedal when stationary. This takes any stress out of the manoeuvre, as it gives you enough time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator (not available on AWD models).
