Bluetooth® with Voice Control *

Now you can choose to safely make hands-free calls on the move by using optional Voice Control technology. This lets you control a Bluetooth® compatible mobile, as well as the car’s audio, DVD navigation and climate control systems.

MP3 and USB connector

Using this socket you can plug in a USB device or MP3 player and listen to your favourite music. And if using Ford Converse+ all tracks will be displayed on the colour TFT (Thin Film Transistor) cluster display, so you can easily select what to play using the audio head unit (optional extra).

Sony 6-CD autochanger

The Sony audio system is available with CD/MP3 compatibility. This optional top-of-the-range hi-fi system with 40 programmable stations has a 6-disc in-dash autochanger, premium speakers, and a security ‘Keycode’ to ensure that you never run out of first-class entertainment, no matter how far you want to travel.

Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Ford Convers+

This intuitive digital command centre helps you stay in complete control of many of the car’s systems. Featuring a standard, enhanced or Ford Convers+ (standard on Titanium and Titanium S) cluster display, the HMI is operated by two steering wheel-mounted toggles for audio and vehicle settings. With the left toggle you can find and change radio stations or CD tracks, as well as set the volume. The right toggle switch controls the cluster display for vehicle settings and the trip computer. On the Ford Convers+ cluster display, the right toggle lets you scroll through MultiMedia lists, controlling the phone, radio, and CD player.

DVD navigation system

Now it’s easier to find your way from A to B by using one of our optional satellite navigation systems. You can choose a 7" touch-screen colour display that gives helpful information on the best routes to use for your journey. You can also play MP3s or CDs on the system, as it comes with premium-quality speakers and the option of an external 6-disc-CD autochanger.

Dual Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC)

What if you feel the cold, but your passengers don’t? You and your front passenger can set the temperature with up to 4° variation between you. (Standard on Zetec and Titanium.)

TÜV allergy British and Asthma Society of Ireland certification

If you, or a member of your family suffer from allergies you’ll be relieved to know that we have fitted an integrated pollen filter. All the materials we use inside S-MAX have been fully tested to minimise allergy risk. They meet the stringent anti-allergy requirements of the TÜV TOXPROOF Criteria Catalogue for Vehicle Interiors, a renowned independent German quality standard. They also have the ‘seal of approval’ from the British Allergy Foundation and the Asthma Society of Ireland.

Park Assist

There are front and rear sensors (optional on LX and standard on all Zetec, Titanium and Titanium S) that make parking and manoeuvring both safer and easier. An audible warning helps you judge the distance between your car and any obstacle behind or in front of you, so you have complete confidence and peace of mind, particularly in tight spaces.

Home Safe headlights

The headlights and optional puddle lights stay on for a few extra seconds as you walk away from your car. A convenient feature that should help you see your way safely to your door at night.

Rain-sensing wipers

With six levels of sensitivity, autowipers on the S-MAX spring into action at the first drop of rain, increasing in speed to deal with whatever the weather may throw at you. Aside from the added convenience, it’s one less thing to think about. (Standard on Titanium and Titanium S, optional on LX and Zetec as part of the Visibility Pack.)

Auto-headlights

The lighting technology in S-MAX has been designed to make night-time driving easier, safer and more comfortable. The headlights automatically turn on when the sensors detect a reduction in light conditions, which means you won’t need to turn them on at dusk, at night, or when you are going through a tunnel. (Standard on Titanium and Titanium S, optional on LX and Zetec as part of the Visibility Pack.)

Intelligent Protection System (IPS)

When the S-MAX earns the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP rating for adult occupant safety, outperforming every other car in its class, you know this is a car that takes safety seriously.

Providing the latest in driver and occupant protection technologies, the key element in our passive safety package is the IPS. This includes the following advanced systems, ready to spring into action in a fraction of a second:

• A rigid steel safety cage that works with side impact door beams to minimise the impact of a collision
• Airbags for overall protection, including driver’s and front passenger’s, also front side impact airbags, together with front and second row, side-curtain airbags deployed from the headlining, plus driver’s knee bolster airbag
• 3-point seat belts with pre-tensioners and retractors on front seats
• Height adjustable mounts on front seat belts
• Seat belt reminder system
• An advanced collapsible steering column and retracting pedals that collapse away from the driver to reduce injury in case of impact - Pedal Intrusion Prevention System (PIPS)
• An Advanced Neck Injury Protection System to help the front passenger avoid whiplash
• Passenger airbag deactivation switch – Dealer fitted
• ISOFIX child seat attachments on outer two seats* in the second row.

*Note: A child seat should never be placed in the front passenger seat when the Ford vehicle is equipped with an operational front passenger’s airbag. The safest place for children is properly restrained on the second row seats.

Active safety features

S-MAX’s active safety features help provide the safest possible environment for you and your passengers. These features include:

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) to help prevent skidding with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) for more stable braking.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) which monitors the rotation of the wheels, as well as the steering wheel angle, yaw angle and sideways movement. If the sensors detect either the front or rear tyres slipping, the onboard computer modifies the engine power and applies the brakes to individual wheels. This keeps them under control and helps keep the vehicle stable. Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) is there to ensure full braking force is available whenever necessary, helping reduce stopping distances in an emergency. To alert other drivers if you do have to brake heavily, the hazard warning lights automatically come on.

Hill Start Assist (HSA). This prevents you from rolling backwards when making a hill start. After releasing the brake pedal when stationary, HSA keeps the wheels braked, leaving you enough time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator without the car moving. (Available as part of Adaptive Cruise Control.)

(Optional) Tyre Pressure Monitoring with individual wheel sensors that check the tyre pressure, provide accurate pressure data and alert you before any loss of pressure becomes an issue.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Forward Alert (FA) with ACC you can automatically keep your chosen distance from the car in front. Should the car in front slow down and reduce the gap, your speed drops too. And when traffic speeds up, you automatically return to cruising speed. Meanwhile, FA monitors your distance to the vehicle in front. If you drive too close, a warning noise and flashing light activate. ACC is only available on Zetec, Titanium and Tianium S.(Optional, includes Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Unique Sports Suspension with CDC.)

Driving quality

Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) with Continuous Controlled Damping (CCD) guarantees stability and efficient braking. Each damper is adjusted five times per second for a smoother, more comfortable ride. You can also select different suspension settings from a range of sport, normal and comfort modes to suit your individual driving style. (Available as part of Adaptive Cruise Control.)
