Distinctive presence
With its understated beauty, Mondeo is at home whether it’s outside a sophisticated town house or in the lane of a country cottage. Its dynamic, muscular yet elegant profile is shaped by Ford kinetic Design, giving the vehicle the impression that it is moving even when stationary. Both driver and passengers can enjoy the quiet satisfaction of travelling in style.
|
Halogen Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS)
With AFS, the headlights swivel to the left or right by up to 15° according to your speed and the angle of the steering wheel. So, as you turn the wheel, the dipped lights swivel to illuminate the road as you take the corner. This boosts forward visibility through bends and creates a safer driving environment. Integrated static cornering lights are activated when you turn the steering wheel 30°. These give even more light on sharper bends, to help you avoid any potential problems around the next corner (standard on Titanium S, optional on Zetec, Ghia and Titanium X).
|
High Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon headlights
If you do a lot of driving at night, or in poor weather, these optional headlights are ideal, generating an extremely bright light but consuming less energy and with a longer service life than conventional halogen bulbs. They also light up a longer and wider angle than standard halogen bulbs (HID xenon headlights with AFS headlights are an option on most models and automatically include static cornering lights).

Premium blue glass

A high-performance diesel engine, the 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi, is now available
The 175 PS 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi is the most powerful diesel engine available in our cars. It gives a sustained 400 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm to 2,750 rpm, and 420 Nm of what’s known as transient overboost, for several seconds to enable supreme confidence in overtaking manoeuvres. Maximum power of 175 PS is delivered at just 3,500 rpm.
The engine has been specially calibrated to deliver performance, as well as a quiet and smooth drive.
Flexifuel delivers lower carbon footprint
As part of our commitment to delivering significant reductions in CO2 output, we have developed Flexifuel engines. They run on a blend of 85% bio-ethanol, sourced from wood residues, sugar beet, wheat or crop waste, and 15% unleaded petrol. This blend is called bioethanol E85, and it delivers a substantially lower carbon footprint than conventional petrol engines, but without compromising performance.
The Flexifuel engine can also run on petrol, giving you a practical alternative if it’s not possible to fill up with bioethanol E85.
In Ireland the bulk of E85 is produced by Carbery Milk Products in West Cork as a byproduct of their cheese making industry and distributed by Maxol Ireland.
Ford Flexifuel vehicles qualify for a VRT reduction of 50% up to a maximum of €2,500. Ford Flexifuel vehicles also qualify for an insurance reduction of up to 20% from FordInsure. VAT registered companies may also claim the VAT paid on E85.
Diesel-powered ECOnetic model range helps lower CO2 emissions
With an average fuel consumption of 5.3L/100km, the Mondeo 1.8-litre ECOnetic variant has an average CO2 emission of only 139 g/km for 4 and 5-door models. It uses clever fuel-saving technology, such as the low-resistance transmission oil, specially developed for us by fuel partner, BP.
Irish Car of the Year 2008
The Ford Mondeo was voted 'Semperit Irish Car of the Year 2008' by the Irish Motoring Writers Association. Ford's
top man in Ireland, Eddie Murphy accepted the award from Ferdia O'Dowd
(Chairman IMWA) and Paddy Murphy (Semperit) at a ceremony in Dublin
that was attended by all of motoring's 'movers and shakers'. The 28
voting members of the IMWA used criteria such innovation, safety,
space, styling, comfort, build quality and of course value for money.
The Mondeo scored 122 points to win the coveted title (that it won once before in the early 90s). |
Commitment to the future
We are always striving to improve what we do and the way we do it.
In the face of climate change – a global challenge – our drive and pace
of innovation has never been so important.
That’s why we are developing a range of highly advanced vehicles
that have less impact on the environment. Our ECOnetic range, for
example, uses low-viscosity transmission oil developed by our fuel
partner, BP.
The Flexifuel engines we have developed offer a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions by running on either bioethanol E85 or normal unleaded petrol – or any mixture of the two.
